Hot Time! summer in the city

I used to know an old joke about how when the Devil wanted to go on vacation he'd go to Dallas. The details escape me now, but I'm sure he'd find Central Texas much more to his liking. They had rain in Dallas yesterday, after all. None of that wet stuff here.

oh, and here's the rest of that first stanza from the Lovin' Spoonful, which I never understood until I just looked up the lyrics:

Hot town, summer in the city
Back of my neck getting burnt and gritty
Been down, isn't it a pity
Doesn't seem to be a shadow in the city

All around, people looking half dead
Walking on the sidewalk, hotter than a match head
